AIA MEDIA RELEASE
New President for SA architects’ peak body A young, committed Adelaide-based architect has been appointed to head the Australian Institute of Architects’ South Australian Chapter.
At the 2010 SA State Architecture Awards being held in Adelaide tonight (Friday 2 July), David Holland, a Director of DASH Architects (Danvers Schulz Holland Architects Pty Ltd), was announced as the Institute’s new State President, taking on the position effective immediately. David replaces outgoing State President Timothy Horton, who accepted an appointment last week as SA Commissioner for Integrated Design.
David has been a member of the Institute since 1999 and a Chapter Councillor since 2009. While serving on Council, David chaired the State Practice Committee and sat on the National Practice Committee. He also formerly sat on the Architects Board of South Australia and has been involved in visiting panels for the accreditation of architectural courses. In work, and lifestyle, David is a strong advocate for sustainability and for the adaptive reuse of existing heritage and non-heritage building stock. His architectural approach is highly cognisant of both cultural and physical context and follows a rigorous and transparent process. He believes in adopting a collaborative approach, and working with his clients to achieve an appropriate balance between quality, time and cost.
Accepting the appointment, David said: “I am a passionate advocate for the profession, seeking a collaborative, common sense, and practical approach to the resolution of matters. I’m very conscious of the momentum recently gained for the profession and built environment generally, culminating in the recent establishment of the SA Integrated Design Commission. While President, I’m keen to support the commission, and fine work undertaken by recent Chapter Presidents, Councils and Committees to further the ambitious agenda that has been set by the SA Chapter."
David completed a B. Arch. St., B.Architecture (hons) and a professional certificate in urban design at the University of Adelaide. He is 36, married, and has three young children. DASH Architects is a mid-sized, Adelaide-based firm, that undertakes a broad range public and private sector projects across the fields of architecture and interiors, heritage, urban design, management and strategies.
